About Me

About Me

MY BACKGROUND

With a passion and desire for helping others, making someone's day better, and making a change I want to pursue a career in fields related to long term care, senior living facilities, hospital organizations, and rehabilitation services. Growing up I spent most of my time with my grandparents, learning, supporting, and caring for them. I chose my major due to my personal experiences in health care environments over the years and wanting to help give those the best quality care in life, whether that is through emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental activities/support. As an upbeat, communicative, and respectful individual with a drive to thrive and excel at my work by going above and beyond, I hope to become the best healthcare leader I can be.

WHAT I BRING TO THE TABLE

Academic Highlights

Healthcare Finance & Budgeting

The final project for this course was to create a financial balance statement and statement of operations excel spreadsheet. From this assignment I gained accounting, finance and budgeting, as well as advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Previously taking Healthcare Accounting, I have excelled in accounting/finance and very much enjoy the skill/task.

Healthcare Accounting

For this course, I had to create all four of the financial statement documents on Microsoft Excel with having learned about the contents for each statement. This course included a heavy load of accounting terms to be learned as well as the ability to appropriately operate Microsoft Excel. From this I now obtain advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Career Prep Health Management

The main goal of this course was to prepare for post-graduation by learning how to behave/respond professionally in a verbal and written standpoint, as well as how to prepare for an interview. For the final project, mock interviews were taken place for gaining an internship in a field related to the individuals interest for a career post-graduation. From this course I have gained organization, verbal/written communication skills, professionalism as well as Microsoft Office Software skills.

Experience Highlights

Finder's Keepers

Working for this company, I started out as Sales Associate having responsibilities of operating the cash register/credit card machine, redo displays, and assist customers. After showing a great performance, I was promoted to my current position Dec. 2022. I now maintain the store/store register, answer/assist customers, created the job description for future applications, hire/train employees as well as maintaining inventory. From this position I have gained training, hiring, scheduling, cash handling, personable, and leadership skills.

Aldi, USA

This company played a huge role in growing me into a hard working, critical thinking individual. My position was the Cashier/Stocker; working there it was a must to work at a fast-paced speed, being friendly, and also ensuring safety for both myself and the customers. Communication was key as well as teamwork. Stocking shelves helped grow my organization, accommodation, and efficiency skills, so that customers and employees could locate the product safely and efficiently.

Wing Tai Trading, Inc.

This opportunity helped in building my communication, marketing, and responsibility skills. For this position, I was handling between $150 to $10,000 dollar orders for wholesale product while also working with the consumers in marketing products for the  consumers best choice. I had to know information about the  product being sold and travel out-of-state to Minneapolis, MN. During the shows that I was present for, I had the privilege to meet people who lived all over the United States, learning that networking is key and developing relationships along the way is essential to keep the loyalty of customers coming back each year.

Life Enrichment Intern - Hoosier Village

Overview of Hoosier Village

The mission that the organization has is to enhance the quality of life by providing and supporting emotional, physical, spiritual, and mental needs of their residents. They offer many options for life enrichment those including wellness, dining, spiritual life, photo gallery, and many activities/events. Facilities offered in the community are independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing facilities. Hoosier Village is one of many locations in the BHI family. There are several communities here in Indiana, two in Ohio, and two in Michigan.

Learning Objectives

Upon my start date, I set for myself that I would act in a professional and ethical manner while being optimistic and respectful, for example being on-time for shifts and dressing appropriately. There were days that I would go to the facility on my days off and get more hours/time in with the residents and supervisor. If there would come a time to assert myself and my ideas I would confidently do so, while staying in the behavior I had set for myself. For this situation I would accept and listen to constructive criticism provided by my supervisor in order to grow and learn; towards the end of my internship I had gained more knowledge on how to work with residents, how to properly use the network that HV uses, and improved my communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities/Projects

My responsibilities include assisting with developing written resident assessments and monthly activities calendar. I plan and coordinate the daily activities schedule in having activities that provide meaningful experiences for the residents. My main responsibility is assisting residents to and from both the scheduled activities and to the dining room for meals. When interacting with the residents I spend quality time with them by being cheerful, optimistic, and respectful during activities and one-on-one time. Recent project of mine was to create a survey for feedback on the career outing that occurred on Jan. 26th at Hoosier Village.

Personal Development

During my time as the Life Enrichment Intern I had developed better scheduling skills, creativity skills, transportation skills from assisting residents to and from the activities room/dining room, and improving my interpersonal communication skills from spending time with residents as well as communicating with all departments/professional staff members. Specific contributions that I made in my role was impacting the resident's lives by being personable and assistive, assisting my supervisor with any tasks that she needed completed, and lastly being on-time and attentive during my shifts. Every day at HV, I ensured I was bringing my A game to work and providing my best work performance possible.

Academic Connections

As part of my major through the Fairbanks School of Public Health, I had the decision to choose between a few courses my last year of undergrad, one of those courses being Long-Term Care. I chose that course and had learned so much about the topic. Having taken LTC I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in that field. Especially after having many years of personal experience visiting my Nana in nursing homes, it just made sense to me and was able to find my passion. From taking that course it created a channel of network connections for me and I'm so grateful for that.

Personal Goals

Where the Road Takes Me: Post-graduation

Towards the end of March 2024, Hoosier Village Retirement Community offered me a full-time position for after graduation. The organization had noticed my above-and-beyond work performance, dependability, dedication in helping others from being the intern for the semester and wanted me to stay working for them. Originally, I wanted to be an AIT after I graduated college but found that was not my fate right now, and knew I needed to get more experience. I want to learn all aspects/departments of a nursing home facility, then later on in the future apply for an AIT Program to pursue my dream of becoming a Nursing Home Administrator.

Future Learning

To get where I want to be career wise, I know I want to go to graduate school to obtain an MBA or MHA degree after working my full-time position for 3-4 years and work during my schooling. There are several certifications that I would like to gain specifically in fields related to senior living and long-term care, but need to do more research on which would be beneficial for my career. Having read the memoir, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down, in my Ethics course the fall of 2023, I would like to read more books like that one as well as personal development books.
